4 Evidence- Based Strategies to Try at Work

Either as a professional in the workplace or a solopreneur in service, it can be easy to power through and forget our essential needs. Simple awareness can bring meaning, understanding, and care back to ourselves and our work. In this spirit, we are sharing four simple evidence-based strategies to build into your workday for ease and balance.
1) Journaling
Reflecting and spending time with yourself to process thoughts through writing has proven to be supportive. Research shows that journaling improves mood, decreases mental distress, and improves well-being. This process can allow you to move through and integrate your day, so you can enjoy more peace and cultivate a sense of ease.
2) Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT)
EFT is an energy psychology method that has recently been cited as research-based technique by the American Psychological Association. It is a somatic-based technique that helps with self-regulating when challenging emotions are present, and allow for complete processing of events. Therefore, if you are experiencing a challenging moment with a coworker, fear of speaking up, or stress around work tasks, this could be a valuable resource.
3) Creative pursuits, hobbies, and interests
Engaging in the things you love, whether it be creative pursuits, hobbies, or intellectual interests can be soothing for your nervous system and energizing for your mind. Think of a time when you wanted to read a wonderful book, get lost in art endeavors, meet for a spiritual gathering, or join a group class or sport. How did that nourish you?
4) Co-working with others
Co-regulating with other positive (or "neutral") people can be so beneficial for the nervous system. When we spend time together it increases togetherness, camaraderie, and sense of shared achievement. Many may experience increased productivity and motivation to complete tasks. These benefits can be particularly helpful for solopreneurs and neurodivergent professionals.
There are many positive aspects to working together to get a task done, and co-working can be an easy way to build it into the day.
5) Make your own list
Among these strategies, there are many more that you may personally benefit from.
Make a list of what speaks to you and notice what you enjoy and feel refreshed by. These can come in handy on a rainy day or at low points during a crazy work week.
